Computer Times Editors' Choice Health BACTRACK Breathalyzers Reviewed by Angie Kibiloski
We’ve all had that moment, whether we’d like to admit it or not, in which we are out at a bar or party, about to get in the car, and we think, “Am I okay to drive or should I call a cab instead?” You might feel sober, but your blood alcohol level could say the opposite. It takes surprising low amounts of alcohol to make you unsafe to be behind the wheel. With the BACTRACK line of accurate and easy to use breathalyzers, from KHN Solutions LLC, you can make sure you are always under the legal limit to drive. This product line consists of 3 models, the B70, S50, and Pro, which is set to come out sometime this summer. Check out these models at http://www.bactrack.com. The B70 (Retail $79.99) is an ultra slim device, featuring the patent-pending BluFire technology, which combines an innovative air-intake design with an advanced software algorithm for fast and accurate results suitable for professional testing applications. There are no mouthpieces to change, so you can test several people in a row without ever having to worry about sharing saliva. You simply breathe into one of the dual-flow breath chamber holes on either side of the unit. The easy to read inverse LCD screen will rapidly count down from 50 to 0. Around 10, take a deep breath and at zero, the screen will display “blow.” Exhale with your mouth wide open for 5 seconds, like you are steaming up a window, and within 3 seconds the device will show you your BAC (blood alcohol level). Because of this hygienic testing method and the small size of this model, you can throw the B70 in your purse for convenient use at a bar with all of your friends. The S50 (Retail $69.99) comes with hygienic disposable mouthpieces, individually wrapped, to change between uses. Instead of BluFire, this model uses advanced semiconductor technology to register results, and a system called FlowCheck to determine full deep lung sampling. This model will even display an alert notice for maintenance needs. The LED displays numbers in a ruby red that is easy to read in low light situations. Both the S50 and B70 have a wide range of test results, registering from 0.00% to 0.40% BAC. They both also run on 2 AA batteries, with a battery life of around 300 tests. The Pro model, releasing to retail later this year, is a bit more sophisticated, designed to be used by law enforcement, hospitals, or other businesses, while still being simple enough for a consumer to use. Not only can you exhale into a sensor hole like with the B70, but there is also a flip up mouthpiece, with a closed entryway for controlled airflow. The display will give you a visual notice that a deep lung sample was registered. You have the option of selecting between 3 or 4 digit results, for the sensitivity your testing situation requires. Price and retail outlets have not been released for this model yet. If you think you might ever find yourself in a situation where knowing your blood alcohol level would be helpful, then having a BACTRACK breathalyzer is a must. With 2 great models to choose from, and another on the way, your BAC testing needs are sure to be satisfied. If you are an individual who just needs a means to quickly and casually test yourself and your friends, then the sleek and simple B70 is right for you. If you like the idea of using disposable, hygienic mouthpieces, the S50 is your model. If you belong to an organization which needs more professional level results and features, then watch for the Pro to hit the market. Whichever you choose, you will find a product that is fast, accurate, easy to operate, and fun to use. |
