Balanzza Ergo Digital Luggage Scale

Reviewed by Angie Kibiloski

It seems that everyday the airlines think of new ways to make money from hapless travelers. $5 for a snack size bag of chips, $2 for a refill on soda, $15-$100 for checked luggage. If your luggage is over a certain weight, you get charged even more. Well, at least this last charge can be avoided, by knowing exactly how much your luggage weighs before leaving your house or hotel. The Balanzza Ergo Digital Luggage Scale (Retail $24.95) is the perfect device to help you out. Light, easy to use, and most importantly, accurate, this product could potentially save you lots of unexpected fees at check-in.

The scale is so simple to operate. Just turn it on, attach the durable strap to the bag or other object you wish to weigh, hold the device horizontal to the ground, and lift. The ergonomic design makes it fit comfortably in either or both hands. The strap is connected to the weighing mechanism on the underside of the device. In only a couple of seconds, the weight is registered, and off you go. You can weigh in lbs (up to 100lbs) or in kg (up to 44kgs). Weigh things by themselves, or inside a container. For instance, if you wish to weigh something not easily lifted by attaching the strap, you can weigh it inside another bag. Just weigh the empty bag first, make note of the weight, and then weigh the bag with the object inside. The large read out is clear, and the weight remains on the screen until you press reset, so you can set your bag back on the ground before reading the registered weight.

I have used this device both for travel and just for fun. I actually just enjoyed going around weighing things I carry in my everyday life, to see how much I put on my shoulder on a regular basis. When traveling, most people (myself included) weigh their luggage before they leave on vacation, but what about the return trip, with all the accumulated souvenirs? By popping this little helper into your carry-on, you’ll never have to wonder if that stylish, yet inexplicably heavy, Tiki figurine you just had to purchase will put you over the airline’s weight limit. Useful, fun, portable, and inexpensive, the Balanzza Ergo Digital Luggage Scale is a great tool to keep in your home, or take with you when you travel.
