Energizer Solar Charger SP 2000

Reviewed by Angie Kibiloski

Everyone is looking for ways to go green, and one way to do that is solar power. Energizer has put out a line of solar powered products, one of which is their SP 2000 Solar Charger (Retail $99.99), with tips available for most any device, from cell phones and mp3 players to cameras and portable game systems. It comes fully charged out of the box, so it is ready to use immediately. When you do need to recharge, just open the solar charger to expose its 3 solar panels, leave it in a sunny spot, and let it absorb that natural solar power. The time it takes to reach a full charge depends on how direct the sun is shining on it; in full direct sun it should take around 6 hours. If you need to charge it up and the sun isn’t shining, you can also plug it into the wall and charge by AC adapter.

The device is rechargeable up to 500 times, and will store a charge for up to a year. The LED lights on the device, show battery and charge status, as well as help you track the optimal charging position in the sun. After it is charged, just find the correct tip for your phone or other device, plug it in, and charge away. Simple, easy, natural, and cost effective. Also, if you register your product online, Energizer has a Tips for Life program, where you can get 2 free tips per year for the life of your charger, so your charger won’t be obsolete if you get a new electronic device. They also have the Tip Fit Guarantee, that promises to have a tip to fit your device, or they will create one for you. Now, that is truly great customer service!

Other great products from the line include portable solar lighting devices like the Solar Folding Lantern and the Solar Spot Light, which are great devices to keep charged for emergency situations like black outs, or take along camping. They also have larger solar solutions for powering your household AC/DC appliances at home or in a RV or vacation cabin. Using these products not only services your charging and lighting needs, it also gives you piece of mind that you are staying green by helping conserve traditional energy supplies, as well as saving yourself money. Other companies have solar chargers, but with a trusted company like Energizer, you know that the products are high quality and will last a long time.
