Editors' Choice Game Brainiversity Reviewed by Angie Kibiloski
Brainiversity (Retail $19.99), from Brighter Minds Media, might look like a game for grade school children, but in reality, it is the latest in the new trend of brain exercising games for adults and seniors. A little time devoted to brain training each day will keep your mind healthy and fit as you get older. Our minds need exercise just like our bodies, to stay young and sharp. The quick and easy to learn mini games in this product make that daily training lots of fun. The best part is, the whole family can enjoy the exercises, young and old, and you can all keep brain fit together! Your host for the game is Edison, a funny little light bulb full of facts and jokes. He guides you through the set up, rules, and scoring during your play time. Up to six people can be registered as players at a time, so you can compare your scores with all of the family. Once you are registered, and your name is neatly written at the top of the notepaper menu screen, you are ready to start training. There are 2 different play modes, Practice and Daily Exam. Start your day with Practice mode, to hone your skills in the 16 unique mini games, then hop over and be quizzed in Daily Exam mode. As you take more Daily Exams, you will unlock more of the 16 Practice games. And, as you play in both modes, you earn Stamps, which are kind of like trophies, for satisfying certain requirements, like achieving high scores in the various game categories. There are 4 categories of games: Language, Memory, Math, and Analysis. Under each are 4 mini games. Since you will discover new games as you unlock them, here are only a few examples. Under Language there is Sort It, which asks you to quickly click on words and put them in alphabetical order. The faster you do it, the more points you get, but as you progress through the game, you are given more word choices, and the level gets trickier. One Memory game is Remember Me, where you have to remember the name of the face you are shown, and then choose the correct name on the next screen. Sound easy? Just wait until you are given 5 faces, 3 of which are named Bill something-or-other. The Math category has Add It Up, where you need to choose the correct answer to a 2 number math problem. Analysis has Find Me, which is similar to Remember Me, except you need only remember the face you are shown, and then pick it out of an ever growing crowd. In all of these games, both speed and accuracy contribute to your grade, so be quick, but be correct.
When you go to the Daily Exam mode, Edison chooses 4 random games, one from each category, whether or not you have unlocked that game. No worries, he'll tell you how to play before each activity. After you finish the Daily Exam, note your progress, or decline, on the chart provided. You can also see charts for each Practice game, and compare your charts to other players.
Brainiversity is fun, easy to pick up, and perfect for the whole family. The target audience is adults who wish to keep their brains sharp as they get older, but young children, and anyone in between can enjoy these simple exercises as well. It is never too early to start training your brain and keeping it young and fit. Features:
