Ghost in the Sheet

Ghost in the Sheet
(Retail $17.00) is most definitely one of the quirkiest adventure games I have
ever played. With rather odd, sometimes dark humor, and strange characters,
Tri Synergy has delivered a bizarre, yet entertaining paranormal adventure.
The graphics and puzzles in the game are top notch, but the off-the-wall charm
of this game is what makes it a real winner.
You play as a poor soul who
has just bit the dust, or pavement really, as you were hit by a bus. You
discover that, instead of going towards a lovely bright light, you are saddled
with an overbearing boss of the afterlife, and a job to investigate the other
worldly happenings at a deserted old factory. You are also burdened with….a
sheet. Yes, you are a ghost…in a sheet. How very droll you say? Well,
apparently, your ghostly essence will scatter all over creation if not
constrained inside the, unfortunately not so clean, white sheet.
So, with your brand new linens
in tow, you are transported to the entrance of a factory, Sector Omega, and must
find a way in, discover what has happened to its workers, and find a way to get
the factory running again, all without the wonderful advantages of having a
physical body, like the ability to touch things. Luckily for your incorporeal
self, you soon learn some paranormal skills, like the ability to levitate
objects with telekinesis, and how to push something with your spectral finger.
As the game progresses, you learn more skills, sometimes taught to you by one of
the other ghosts you meet inside the factory. These other ghosts, poor things,
have been trapped at Sector Omega, along with some other creatures, like the
giant in the basement and some weird, wiggly, flying, squid thing. Converse with
these entities to aid in your mission, and use your skills to manipulate your
environment to discover the secrets that Sector Omega hides. You'll soon find
out that those weird stains on your new sheet are not the only suspect element
of your after death job.
The environments in this game
are highly detailed and interesting, with lots of things to interact with. You
really get the feeling of an old derelict factory, with leaky pipes, vats filled
with unknown liquid, and broken down machinery. The cut scenes add to the
general bizarre feel, by not being traditional cut scenes, as you have seen in
other games. Rather, in deep contrast to the amazing game play environments,
they are styled like strange black and white comic book pages, with narration
over the still frame. Weird yes, but cool too. The mood music is a combination
of spooky and funny, adding to the quirky atmosphere of the game play. The Ghost
comes out with some inspired dry wit about the things he sees, and provides
wonderfully sardonic commentary throughout. Though sometimes stressed with his
new status in life….uh, afterlife, with your help he manages to muddle through,
even when the sheets are stacked against him.
Ghost in the Sheet is a
quality adventure game, with codes to break, mysteries to solve, and interesting
characters and places to discover. What make this game different and extremely
cool, is the tongue-in-cheek vibe of the whole experience. This quirky, zany
game is a MUST for game lovers who like a little laughter with their adventure.
The afterlife has never seemed so much fun!
