Computer Times Editors' Choice Book Above Top Secret: Uncover the Mysteries of the Digital Age Reviewed by Angie Kibiloski Aliens. Assassinations. Apocalyptic predictions. Fuel source cover-ups. Time travel. These sound like plot points from The X-Files. Some people believe that they aren’t just concepts made for cult TV, but real and timely concerns. One of these people is acclaimed conspiracy theorist Jim Marrs, author of the recent book, Above Top Secret: Uncover the Mysteries of the Digital Age (Retail $19.95). In this engaging work, Marrs deals with 19 popular conspiracy theories from the last 50 years, including JFK, Roswell, 2012, and the lunar landings. His source material comes in part from contributors to the website www.AboveTopSecret.com. Here, theories of all kinds are documented and discussed by millions of believers world wide. The chapter titles are diverse and intriguing, offering a theory to satisfy anyone’s tastes. Each is well written, with clear explanations of the theory, the events behind it, and the evidence supporting it. Part of the fun of reading this book is discovering what the questions in the chapter titles mean, so I will not go into detail about each theory, but I will ignite your curiosity by giving you some of the chapter titles. Was 9/11 an Inside Job? Is the Supply of Oil Peeking? Do Road Signs Contain Hidden Codes? Is There a Nazi Base in Antarctica? Were the Moon Landings Faked? What Landed at Roswell? Is God an Alien? What Will Happen in 2012? These questions and many more will be explored in this page turning volume. As long as there have been governments in power and events that are unexplained, conspiracy theories have existed. We hate to think that the people who control our daily lives are ignorant of the happenings around us, like UFOs in our skies and rumored cures for cancer or other diseases. So, we come to believe that they do know of these things, and for some possibly nefarious reason, decide to keep the knowledge from us. Could they be conspiring with each other to rule us through our continued ignorance? Thus, a conspiracy theory is born. Are the theorists crazy, paranoid, delusional? Or are they simply able to see and understand things that the majority of us are too blind or frightened to acknowledge? Who can be sure? Jim Marrs is not saying any of these theories are correct, or that we should believe one way or the other. He is simply giving his readers the information needed to make decisions for themselves. By taking a look through this entertaining and informative book, you will gain some of the knowledge you need to decide for yourself if you are a believer. |
