Black Mirror 3: Final Fear

Review by Angie Kibiloski

Black Mirror 3: Final Fear (Retail $19.99), from dtp entertainment and Viva-Media, is the third, and last installment in the successful Black Mirror adventure series.  Picking up where the last game left off, you値l step back into the shoes of Adrian Gordon, as he tries to prove he痴 innocent of arson, and the death of 4 people.  Black Mirror Castle has burned, claiming the lives of 3 people inside, and the body of a woman has been found outside of town, also burned.  The cops think you are responsible, and are deaf to your claims that mysterious dark forces are behind the tragedies.  Your police appointed shrink is willing to listen, but will she be able to help you find answers, or be an instrument in your incarceration?  As you attempt to clear yourself of the crimes and break free from the events of the past, you値l explore familiar locations from the previous games, get reacquainted with the citizens of the nearby village of Willow Creek, and discover new clues about the ancient curse of the Gordon family, all while battling your strange hallucinations of violence.

Black Mirror 3 is a point and click adventure title, complete with all the standard features, like interactive conversations, useful inventory items, detailed environments to search and explore, and sequences of tasks you need to accomplish to progress the plot.  Adorned with suspenseful mood music, entertaining cut scenes, and somewhat dodgy voice acting, this game hits all of the expected points of the genre.  I was happy to slip back into the world of Black Mirror, having enjoyed the 2 previous series installments, and I was very satisfied with what this title delivered.  Story is the most important element of a good adventure, and this is an interesting one, with new layers unfolding every other minute, as you slowly work out the motives and relationships of all the characters you meet.  If you致e played the other titles, you値l enjoy building on what you already know, and if this is your first trip to Black Mirror Castle, you値l find enough information as this new chapter progresses to be able to piece together past events.

Willow Creek is definitely a village ripe with mystery and thrills, due mostly in part to its ghastly heritage of frequent murders, and the darkness surrounding the alleged curse of the Gordon family.  When you step into this tale, as the lead in the climactic last act of its bloody history, you値l have to be on your toes in order to survive the ending unscathed.  It is up to you, as Adrian Gordon, to put an end to the ancient curse and banish the evil forces residing in the area.  Anyone who loves a great classic adventure tale is sure to find hours of pleasure playing this game.  Black Mirror 3: Final Fear is a credit to the genre, and a perfect farewell to a great trilogy.
