Editors' Choice DS Game Squinkies 2: Adventure Mall Surprize! Review by Angie Kibiloski
Earlier this year, Activision came out with an adorable Nintendo DS game, called Squinkies: Surprize Inside, based on the popular Squinkies toy series from Blip Toys. Now, they’ve released a second title, filled with even more squishy squashy fun! Squinkies 2: Adventure Mall Surprize! (Retail $29.99) is a different style of game, but just as fun as the first one. Instead of playing mini game puzzles to release Squinkies from their bubbles, you’ll be jumping around a world dotted with obstacles and platforms, chasing after the little cuties in order to invite them to a party. Young girls will love exploring each level of the mall with the 50 playable Squinkies characters. Visit all 4 unique environments to find all of the Squinkies and throw the best party ever!
Before playing each level, you’ll get to turn the knob on the Gumball Playhouse to receive one of the Squinkies characters for your play through that level. There are 4 levels in each area of the mall, for a total of 16 exciting and unique levels. Play through the Aquarium, Food Court, Wedding Chapel, and Amusement Park as you complete and unlock each area. Completing a level will require you to run and jump onto platforms and other obstacles like moving walkways and trampolines, in order to catch all of the Squinkies who are running away from you. They are running because they’re shy and you haven’t made friends with them yet, but give them an invitation to your Squinkies party and they’ll join you in your Bubble Bank and be your friends for life. The faster you catch all of the Squinkies in a level, the more magic coins and Squinkies you are awarded with. When you gather enough magic coins, special rare and playable Squinkies will be unlocked, who have a double jumping ability that is very useful in some levels. You’ll also collect other, numbered coins in each level. Pick up all of the numbered coins in ascending order, and you’ll get to play a bonus level. Here, you’ll grab as many bouncing items as you can to get even more magic coins. Some items are worth more than others, so try to aim for those.
There are over 600 Squinkies to collect, with 10 rare Squinkies to earn with magic coins. You can then view all of the Squinkies you’ve collected in the Bubble Bank, and choose your favorites to keep in a special tab for convenient viewing. With so many adorable characters to find and collect, your child will have hours of fun with this game. In addition to the regularly packaged game, some stores also carry an edition packaged with a special 3-piece set of ultra rare Squinkies toys. Squinkies 2: Adventure Mall Surprize! is a great game filled with tons of innocent fun and a cast of friendly characters. With the holidays coming up soon, this title would be perfect for any little gamer girls on your gift list.
